MDC-T national spokesperson and Nyanga North MP Douglas Mwonzora is suing Harare South MP Hubert Nyanhongo for occupying his parliamentary offices in the eastern border town.

Mwonzora also cited the chairman of Nyanga Rural District Council (NRDC) and the chief executive officer as respondents in their official capacities. The MDC-T MP said he applied and was allocated offices to work from by the NRDC. He claims one of the offices was still being used by one Nyabadza. He was promised to occupy that office once Nyabadza vacated.

“By a full council resolution dated 29 May 2009, I was offered offices at the 3rd respondent’s premises at Ruwangwe Sub Office. I could not be given all my office requirements, including the boardroom which was being used as a storeroom because one Mr Nyabadza was occupying same at the time of my application,” said Mwonzora in his affidavit.

Mwonzora said when Nyabadza vacated the boardroom he had plans to use it as either a boardroom or a storeroom for Constituency Development Fund material. He was however surprised to learn that Nyanhongo had occupied it.

“I learnt, however, that the 4th respondent (Nyanhongo) had verbally applied to 1st respondent (Chairman of the NRDC) to occupy offices at the Ruwangwe Sub Office. I learnt that his request would be discussed at the full council meeting on 25 March 2011.

“I intended to make my representation to the meeting on 25 February 2011. However, on 15 February 2011 I was arrested by the police on false charges of public violence. I was put in preventive detention at Mutare Remand Prison up to the 11th of March 2011.” While he was incarcerated, Mwonzora said council convened, deliberated and resolved to allocate to Nyanhongo the same offices that had been allotted to him.

Mwonzora added: “The 4th respondent (Nyanhongo) is seeking to relocate to Nyanga North from Harare South as a Member of Parliament. Regrettably he has brought with him a lot of violence to Nyanga North.”
