Top Zimbabwean broadcaster John Nyashanu has been appointed News Editor of NewsDay, Zimbabwe’s fastest growing daily paper.

Before his appointment, Nyashanu was the Zimbabwe Correspondent for South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) News for five years.

He takes over from Tangai Chipangura, who has been promoted to Assistant Editor.

Nyashanu rose to prominence as sports reporter and presenter on the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC)’s main news.

NewsDay has promoted Veneranda Langa to the position of Senior Parliamentary Reporter. Langa joined NewsDay in July 2010 as a Parliamentary Reporter.

She had previously worked as a Principal Hansard Reporter with the Parliament of Zimbabwe.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Communication Sciences, a Post-Graduate Diploma in Public Relations and a Diploma in Secretarial Studies.

Charles Laiton has been promoted to the position of Senior Court Reporter.

Laiton joined NewsDay in June 2010. Before joining NewsDay, Laiton worked for the Ministry of Justice as a Court Interpreter for 15 years and rose through the ranks to become the Principal Court Interpreter.

He holds a Diploma in Mass Communication, and a Certificate in Interpreting Skills and Victim Friendly Court.

NewsDay Editor Brian Mangwende is confident that the latest appointees will add value to the popular newspaper.

“I have confidence in the growing team. Nyashanu brings with him a wealth of experience which is critical for the survival of the paper in the face of competition,” he said.
