Pint-sized Young Warriors striker Trevor Mutero is relishing his Young Warriors debut as Zimbabwe gear up for the second round, second leg of the Zone VI All-Africa Games qualifier against the Young Zebras of Botswana at Rufaro tomorrow (Sunday).

The United Kingdom-based player has been in the country for the past three weeks and was part of the Young Warriors team that went to Botswana a fortnight ago but he did not play in the first leg.

Mutero said not playing in Botswana was an advantage as he relished his debut in front of home fans.

“I think it was a blessing in disguise for me because I have been looking forward to playing my first match in front of home fans. I was born and grew up in Masvingo, hence a number of people do not know me. I think it will be proper for them to see me in action this Sunday (tomorrow). I have high hopes that I will be given a chance to play and show the fans what I am capable of doing,” Mutero said.

After failing to play in Botswana, Mutero was called up to play for the Under-19 in the Metropolitan Super Cup in South Africa where he scored four goals in six matches.

Assistant coach Darlington Dodo said they could not run away from the fact that they have two influential players suspended but they had to work with what they have.

“We are missing the services of the two players, Archford Gutu and Denver Mukamba, who were red-carded in the first leg in Botswana, but we have other equally good players to carry the day for us,” he said.

Joel Ngodzo and Abbas Amidu have minor knocks. The Young Zebras went through their paces at the National Sports Stadium yesterday and will have a feel of the match venue Saturday.

l Meanwhile, the Mighty Warriors will be also be looking for victory when they clash against Angola in the Zone VI All- Africa Games first leg, first round qualifier in Dunda, 400km outside the capital Luanda, Sunday afternoon.

The Mighty Warriors arrived at their base yesterday and will train at the match venue today ahead of the match.
