John Gambanga, the managing editor of the Daily News, has resigned.

The veteran journalist confirmed Friday was his last day in office but declined to give reasons for his departure, referring questions to one of the paper’s assistant editors, Stanley Gama.

Gama however said he was not in a position to shed any more light on the issue, saying the matter was an administrative one and therefore outside his mandate.

“That is an administrative issue which I cannot comment on,” Gama said.

“In fact, I am not aware of that development. I am hearing it from you for the first time.”

Associated Newspapers of Zimbabwe director Jethro Goko was not immediately available to comment on the development.

The veteran newsman has been at the helm of the paper since its relaunch in March 2011.

Gambanga, the former executive director of the Voluntary Media Council of Zimbabwe, is one of the most experienced journalists in Zimbabwe and was the editor when the paper was closed down in 2003.
