Canadian church organisations have donated $70 000 to Victory Fellowship Church in Bulawayo for the construction of houses for homeless single mothers and child-headed families.

Pastor Daniel Harding and his wife Yvonne sourced the money after fellow church pastor Alfred Nyalila and his wife Beatrice donated six acres of land to the church for the project.

So far two houses have been completed and five more are under construction.

Speaking during the official opening and handover ceremony at the newly constructed houses in Queens Park East in Bulawayo on Sunday, Harding said the idea of the project was mooted in 2006 after church leaders identified many homeless women and children.

“Two families will be accommodated at the two completed houses,” he said.

“The families will be accommodated while at the same time they pursue other projects such as market gardening to financially capacitate themselves. Each family must be accommodated at the site for a period of about three years before moving out to pave way for others.”
