A 40-year-old Harare man was caught pants down raping a 10-year old Grade Four pupil while threatening her with arrest if she resisted.

The offence was committed in the high density suburb of Warren Park a fortnight ago.

Michael Lino appeared before regional magistrate Daniel Shonhiwa last Thursday facing a charge of rape and was remanded in custody.

He was not asked to plead, but was advised to apply for bail at the High Court.

According to the State case, the complainant and Lino were neighbours.

On April 11, Lino called the girl to his room after sending her friend to the shops.

It is alleged he pushed the complainant onto his bed and undressed her while threatening to cause her arrest if she resisted.

When the complainant’s friend returned she allegedly caught Lino on top of the child, kissing and fondling her breasts.

She reported the incident to the girl’s mother leading to Lino’s arrest.
