Bulawayo Dominican Convent’s Tanyaradzwa Magunje beat Harare’s Munashe Kawone 6-3, 6-0 to scoop the prize in the Girls Under-12 singles category in the Bulawayo Junior Tennis Open at Girls College on Thursday.

It was an easy walk in the park for Magunje, who has a bright future in the sport if nurtured well.

In the Boys Under-10 category Nicholas Baron of Bulawayo beat Tinevimbo Mufamba of Masvingo 7-6 while in the girls’ section of the same age category Tanyaradzwa Kawone of got the better of Tanyaradzwa Murape 6-3 in one-off sets.

It was not an easy task for other Bulawayo participants as Thembela Ndlovu fell 6-2, 6-0 to Harare’s Rumbi Magwere in the Girls Under-18 while Takudzwa Muswere won on a walkover over Bulawayo’s Zibusiso Ndimande who earlier suffered a shoulder injury.

In the other final matches that were played on Thursday, Karen Machisa beat Mufaro Chirewa 6-3, 6-2 in the Girls Under-14. Ngoni Makambwa sailed past Tonderai Tapfuma 7-6, 6-2 in the Boys Under-14 section and the two hail from Mutare.

In the Girls Under-16 Zara Finnigan beat fellow Hararian Michelle Majiri 6-1, 5-7, 6-2.

Alwyn Mushonga from Mutare beat Harare’s Luca Pici 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 in the Under-16 Boys’ category.

The tournament which started on Tuesday was hosted by Bulawayo Athletic Club (BAC), Country Club, Girls College and Whitestone Primary School.
