A 71-year-old Mbare man who sodomised his 15-year-old grandson was on Thursday jailed for seven years.

Regional magistrate Never Katiyo described the man as “a callous, shameless old man” who totally disregarded the nature of humanity.

The man trapped the boy in his bedroom in January this year after lying to the boy that he wanted him to try new clothes he had bought.

The boy complied, leading to the abuse after which he was offered $5 and threatened with death if he reported the matter.

Despite the death threats the boy reported the matter to the police leading to the man’s arrest.

“The child looked forward to the accused for protection and guidance but he turned to be his enemy number One. He is very callous and despite his advanced age, he does not deserve to be in society because he is a danger to the community around him.”

Katiyo suspended two years of the sentence on condition of good behaviour, leaving the man to serve an effective jail term of five years.
