A Zimbabwean was last week arrested and convicted for breaking into a car in Botswana and stealing a loaded gun.

Calvin Ncube was convicted on his own plea of guilty when he appeared before Francistown magistrate Thebeetisle Motalu on Tuesday. He was remanded in custody to April 18 for sentence.

Ncube and his two unnamed alleged accomplices committed the offence on January 11.

His alleged accomplices denied the charge and were remanded in custody to April 18 for trial.

The court heard that on January 11, the trio ganged up and went to Donga location in Francistown where they broke into a Toyota Hilux belonging to a Batswana national and stole a rifle, two live bullets and a blanket.

They were spotted by policemen on patrol but they managed to escape.

They were later arrested following a tip-off by members of the public.
