Zimbabwe heavyweight and WBA Pan-African boxing champion Thamsanqa Dube has signed a sponsorship deal with Horizon Restaurant for his next ten fights amid revelations that his first fight will be against veteran boxer Arigoma Chiponda.

The pugilist has been on the sidelines of boxing as he was failing to secure sponsorship but will bounce back on April 22 in Bulawayo.

Speaking soon after the signing ceremony at a press conference, Horizon manager Carl Wittstock said they would sponsor the boxer in his next fight.

He said Dube would get his first bout this month.

“We will sponsor Thamsanqa Dube for his next ten fights. After that we will negotiate and we hope he will remain on board for as long as necessary. His first bout will be on April 22 but we cannot disclose the name of the opponent now.

“We have lined up sponsors who are big players in the Zimbabwe economy,” he said.

NewsDay Sport spoke to Chiponda who confirmed that he would be coming to Bulawayo for the fight.

“This time I will beat Dube because I will be well-prepared because the last time was not well- prepared,” he said.

Dube, trained by Phillip Striker, said: “I am happy over what Horizon has done for me. I hope to work well with them as they have shown passion for the sport. I got the sponsorship after a struggle and I am very grateful,” he said.
