A local sport non-governmental organisation (NGO) Tambai Zimbabwe received sports equipment worth over D5 075 from the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany.
The equipment, which includes volleyballs, pumps, tracksuits, jerseys and shorts, knee guards and other sports accessories, was presented to officials and beneficiaries of Tambai Zimbabwe on Wednesday afternoon by the German Ambassador to Zimbabwe Albretch Conze at Seke Unit L community centre in Chitungwiza.
“Sport brings healthy lives to young people and it keeps the youth away from harmful substances like drugs and alcohol.
“When you are involved in sport activities, you have to give yourself time and train. We are confident that this equipment will go a long way in helping Tambai beneficiaries in poor communities in which the programme is operational,” said Conze.
Tambai Zimbabwe is a charitable NGO founded in Harare whose goal is to positively engage children and adolescents in regular and community-based sport activities as a platform to deliver HIV/Aids education and life skills training, to equip them with the knowledge and skills to resist unwanted pressure and intimidation and to protect themselves from HIV/Aids thus developing to their full potential.
Tambai Zimbabwe national coordinator and former volleyball national team captain Jeffrey Kachingwe thanked Conze and the German Embassy for coming to their rescue.
