(MC Alger won on away goals rule after the two legs ended 4-4 on aggregate)
Dynamos’ Caf Orange Champions League dream ended in tears on Sunday night after they were stunned 3-0 by MC Alger at the massive 105 000-seater Stade 5 Juillet 1962 Stadium in Algiers to bow out in the first round.
According to reports from Algeria, all players in the Dynamos line-up received yellow cards from the referee while Archford Gutu and Guthrie Zhokinyi received their second ones in the second half, leading to their ejection.
The Zimbabwe giants won the first leg match 4-1 at Rufaro Stadium two weeks ago and MC Alger, needing a 3-0 win to pull through, did just that with two late goals.
The Algerians, according to reports on Sunday night, led 1-0 after 43 minutes and scored the second in the 75th minute from the penalty spot before the killer goal arrived in the 89th minute.
It was obviously a must-win match as the Algerians, spurred on by the away goal from Rufaro two weeks ago, which was needlessly conceded through a last-minute penalty, piled on the early pressure to get a goal in the opening half.
Meanwhile, MC Alger will now meet Angolan champions Interclube who reached the second round of the Orange Caf Champions League after beating Sudanese giants Al Merreikh 3-2 on penalties on Saturday in Luanda.
