Champions Old Georgians will be without Njabulo Ndlovu when they begin the defence of their National Rugby League title against last year’s runners up Harare Sports Club Saturday.

The Old Georgians, Harare Sports Club match will kick off at 1610 hours and is the major draw card.

The same venue will also host six other matches in the A, B and Women’s league as the new season gets underway.

Ndlovu is a key member of the Old Georgians team but will watch from the sidelines after suffering a neck injury while playing for the Zimbabwe Sevens team, the Cheetahs in Hong Kong last week.

Old Georgians’ player/coach Grant Mitchell said the absence of his powerful loose forward would not affect his team’s performance but added that he hoped he would be back in time for next week’s fixtures.

“Unfortunately Njabulo Ndlovu will not take part in the match against Sports Club and hopefully he would have recovered in time for next week’s matches.

“However, I don’t think that his absence will be a huge blow for us as we have a number of good players who will fill up for him in his absence.

“We have a few players from the national Under-20 team who we will also unleash in tomorrow’s game,” said Mitchell, who took over from Brighton Chivandire during the pre-season.

Old Georgians will however not have it all their way as Harare Sports Club will be out for revenge after Coles’ injury time try landed his team the coveted league title last season.

Cyprian Mandenge said, “It’s going to be a tight game because Old Georgians would want to prove why they are the reigning champions while we also want to get off to a good start in the new season.”
