The annual African Entertainment Awards (AEA) will be held in Malaysia tonight and two Zimbabwean artists Winky D and South African-based disc jockey DJ Phatbeatz are vying for accolades in various categories.

Winky D, popularly known as Biggie Man was nominated for three categories, Best Mainstream Act of the Year, Song of the Year and Artist of the Year.

He will battle it out with Priston (South Africa), Justin Kingland, Mo Easy (both from Nigeria), Jaamie Woods (Kenya) and Flavour (Nigeria) for the Best Mainstream Act of the Year.

For Song of the Year award, his hit track Controversy will see him competing with Oleku Ice Prince, 2Face Idibia, and DBanj. For Artist of the Year award, Winky D will compete with M I, Wahoo, DBanj, Whiz Kid and 2Face from other parts of the continent.

DJ Phatbeatz (real name Farai Chamatowa) will compete for the Best International Deejay category against last year’s EAE winner DJ Neptune, DJ Jam Jam Oyinbo Swagga, DJ Sose, DJ Adraine and DJ Waxxy.

This year marks the second edition of the awards. According to a statement from awards organisers the event is held annually to honour and appreciate the amazing talents in various arts and entertainment genres.

AEA Malaysia was conceptualised last year by Orange Box Asia, a Malaysia-based entertainment company.

“AEA is a prestigious night of recognition and celebration of goals attached by Africans in the Diaspora and their contributions to the undying cultural heritage,” read part of the statement.

Other categories of the awards include Best Male Artist, Best Female Artist, Best Hip-Hop Artist, Best R&B Solo/Group, Best Rap Artist, Best .

Ragga/Dancehall Solo/group, Best Video of the Year, Best Producer of the Year, Best Group Act, Best Stage Performance, Event of the Year, Best Promoter of the Year, Club/Venue of the Year, West Africa/Central Act of the Year, East African Act of the Year, Southern African Act of the Year and Gospel/Inspirational Artist of the Year.
