Caps, Dynamos fight it out

-

Any thoughts that Dynamos and Evans Gwekwerere parted company on good terms have been dispelled by the player and those left behind.

The striker can expect a rough ride from his former colleagues if he makes his competitive debut for new club Caps United against his former paymasters in a pre-season Harare derby at Rufaro Stadium Saturday.

Gwekwerere will be itching to show Dynamos just what they are going to be missing in the forthcoming season but football fans are a fickle bunch and DeMbare already have a new hero in Rodrick Mutuma, who made an instant impact against league champions Motor Action in a friendly early this month.

The lanky striker has netted six goals in four of his team’s five friendlies played so far.

Dynamos coach Lloyd Mutasa has been gushing in his praise for the team’s newfound gem and believes the former Sporting Manhenga striker can only improve as he becomes accustomed to the more gruelling Premier League.

With other promising acquisition in the highly rated Devon Chafa, Tawanda Muparati and Gift Bello in the squad, things definitely look on the up for a Dynamos team that has been in the shade for much of the pre-season.

The financially troubled team has lost players en-masse in the previous few weeks.

Thabani Kamusoko and Khumbulani Banda are reportedly at newcomers FC Platinum, Gwekwerere went to Caps United while Benjamin Marere, Murape Murape and goalkeeper Washington Arubi decided to join Division One side Highfield United.

However, despite that setback, the new look DeMbare have clicked ominously in the last couple of weeks, racking up nine goals in successive pre-season friendlies against Renaissance, Motor Action, Chinhoyi Select, Chrome Stars and Premiership new boys Blue Ribbon.

The addition of the exciting pair of Denver Mukamba and Archford Gutu, who have been away on national duty, will give the young and inexperienced team even more confidence.

Caps United on the other hand look very terrifying.

They are the only team that has managed to hold on to their players during a busy transfer window that has seen big teams like Dynamos and Highlanders losing their influential stars.

In addition, the Green Machine has managed to lure a massive 12 players in to their seemingly strong team.

Besides Gwekwerere, who is surely going to receive a hostile reception if he plays, two other players, Charles Chiutsa and Simba Sithole, are also likely to steal the show.
