Cricket franchise Matabeleland Tuskers will on Friday hold a golf day at Bulawayo Golf Club to raise funds for junior cricket development in the country.
The golf tournament will be played on a four-ball alliance and twenty teams have confirmed their participation.
Players like Shepherd Huni will line up with Jeremiah Chatindo and Mufaro Chivonivoni for Liverpool.
For us, we are dedicating the tournament to Mqa Dube, one of the amateur golfers in the city, who recently was involved in a car accident,” Huni said.
Gary Nyumbu of PJ Motors had this to say: “We should win.”
Nyumbu teams up with Jonathan “JB” Sibanda and Laura Buckley. An all-ladies team comprising of last year’s Pilsener Cup sensation Rodnah Mutasa, Sue Limbada and Florence Zibomvu will also be teeing off in the competition.
Tuskers will also provide a set of two teams for the competition.
Concerning the objectives of the golf day, Tuskers’ marketing manager Nkosikhona Ndlovu had this to say:
“The involvement of golf in junior cricket fundraising initiatives is a classic example of cross-branding for the global benefit of sports in our sphere of influence. We have two great sporting brands coming together to generate resources to identify the next Christopher Mpofu and to provide a platform for the next Charles Coventry to shine.”
