Mountaineers’ skipper Hamilton Masakadza led from the front with an unbeaten century to take his team to the verge of a comfortable win over Mashonaland Eagles in a Castle Logan Cup cricket match at Mutare Sports Club Wednesday.
Masakadza scored an unbeaten 120 as Mountaineers declared their second innings score at 248 for five, to set a target of 373 runs for Eagles to chase.
However Eagles were on the back foot from the start and face an uphill task today after leg spinner Natsai Mushangwe took five wickets to leave them reeling at 71 for six, needing another 303 runs for an unlikely win with four wickets in hand.
However it was the captain’s knock by Masakadza which set the platform for Mountaineers as he shared a six-wicket partnership stand with Gary Chirimuta who added 66 runs.
Masakadza’s knock included 10 fours and four sixes and the gave the hosts this impetus as the quick scoring gave them more time to put the hosts under pressure with a day and a half to go.
