Mashonaland Eagles were bowled out for just 229 runs in their first innings, 125 runs shy of Mountaineers’ 354 on the second day of their Castle Logan Cup encounter at Mutare Sports Club on Tuesday.
The Mountaineers’ bowlers led by the seam duo of Tendai Chatara and Donald Tiripano who picked three wickets apiece never allowed the visitors to settle as they took wickets at regular intervals.
Leg spinners Natsai Mushangwe and Tymicen Maruma also maintained the pressure from the other end with two wickets apiece to reaffirm Mountaineers this season.
However at stumps on Tuesday Eagles had fought back towards the close of play by taking three quick wickets as Mountaineers finished on 23 for three with a lead of 148 runs.
The Mutare based side is the only team that is now guaranteed a place in this year’s Logan Cup final as they are comfortably on top of the log with only three rounds of matches left in the league.
Only the top two teams qualify for the final which is competed over five days.
