Saints favourites to land Eagles franchise

Former Premiership side Zimbabwe Saints are in negotiations with Eagles in a bid to acquire the Chitungwiza-based team’s franchise.

NewsDay Sport is reliably informed that Chikwata could be returning to the Premiership if their deal with Eagles materialises.
A source told this publication that Zimbabwe Saints were close to clinching the deal, which was not denied by the Bulawayo outfit’s chairman Felix Dzumbunu.

The source said Chikwata was only awaiting the return of Stanley Kudenga, Eagles’ director who is said to be in South Africa on private business.

“They have actually finalised the deal, which is being brokered by a popular football administrator. That deal was done on Wednesday. The only hitch now is that the Eagles director is out of the country but the prospects of Saints landing the deal are at an advanced stage and they could be playing in the Premier League this season,” the source said.
Dzumbunu did not have much to say save to state that his club was negotiating with Eagles.

Earlier in the week, there had been reports that another former Premiership side, Railstars, were eyeing the Eagles’ franchise, but the Njanji executive rubbished the assertions as speculation.

Said Railstars’ secretary- general Champion Kudiwa: “There is nothing like that. It is all speculation. You can speak to the chairman, but there is nothing like that.”
