The local rugby fraternity reaffirmed its confidence in Themba Sibanda whom they unanimously retained as president of the Zimbabwe Rugby Union at the association’s annual general meeting at Old Hararians Sports Club on Sunday.
Sibanda will serve his third and final one-year term as required by the constitution after being nominated by Harare province and seconded by Matabeleland.
Matabeleland Rugby Board chairman Sean Robertson came in as the new vice president representing the Southern Region after he was nominated by Matabeleland Province and Women’s Rugby.
District Dragons chairman John Falkenburg is the other vice-president (Northern Region) after he was nominated by Matabeleland and seconded by Harare Province. He takes over from Judith Chiyangwa.
Robertson, who once coached the Matabeleland Busters, the Zimbabwe Sevens side, replaced Dave Nash as the vice-president and is not a new face in administration as he is the current Busters chairman.
Speaking after the meeting, Sibanda said one pressing issue that they had resolved to finalise at the meeting was the issue of the constitution.
“We need to get the issue of the constitution sorted out and in the meeting we agreed that by the end of March it should be history.”
