Khulekani “Samazaza” Sibanda is a well known Kwaito musician in Matabeleland but not so many people know who “discovered” him.
Local producer and DJ, Petros ‘2Nyce’ Malemane has come out in the open and declared that he is the one who “discovered” the Kwaito musician and also helped him produce the hit-track Ngidlimal’yami.
“I met Samazaza in 2009 when he was looking for a producer,” said 2Nyce.
“I took him onto my stable and helped him come up with his first single which has done well on the club scene and on local radio”.
2Nyce said once they had finished working on the single, they took it to club DJs so as to test whether or not people would like it.
“We were not very sure as to how people would respond to the song but much to our surprise, it became an instant hit,” he said.
He said that what could have given the song its cutting edge is the involvement of prominent South Africa-based producer, Methembe “Shabz” Zaba in its production.
“He also contributed to the production of the single hence it has that authentic Kwaito feel to it,” he said.
2Nyce said Samazaza had since managed to secure live performance contracts in Bulawayo, Gwanda, Beitbridge, Hwange and Victoria Falls.
He said together with two other producers, Nathaniel “Nathy Tee” Chipunza and Pricial “Miss Independent” Vera, they are now working on what would be Samazaza’s debut album which would be out in April.
He, however, decried lack of airplay on Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) for music from Matabeleland.
“The music that is produced here has fans as far as Harare but the ZBC is letting us down,” he said.
