A 19-year-old Hatfield man was this week arrested on allegations of raping his niece thrice in November last year.
Jerico Guma allegedly promised the 13-year-old a cellphone if she did not divulge the abuse.
However, the girl spilled the beans to her grandmother who in turn told the mother what happened.
It is alleged that on the first occasion the girl entered her bedroom to collect a book and Guma followed and raped her.
On the second occasion it is alleged, the girl entered her bedroom looking for her pair of shoes when Guma again pounced on her.
Guma’s alleged last abuse of the girl was when the minor entered his room to collect an iron and Guma took advantage of her.
Guma appeared before regional magistrate Never Katiyo, pleading not guilty and was remanded in custody to January 26. — Staff Writer
