Miss Tourism Zimbabwe 2009/2010 first princess Chido Mushaya managed to squeeze into the top 20 finalists at the 2010 Miss Tourism International World Finale held last Friday in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
She was adjudged number 14 and was the only African woman at the pageant, which started on December 12. She is the first Zimbabwean to participate in the annual pageant among 56 beauties from as many countries.
Mushaya, who arrived home on Sunday after spending Christmas and New Year in Malaysia told NewsDay her stay in Malaysia was a fun-packed learning experience in which she had the double honour to represent her home country and Africa.
“Since I was the only African present, all questions to do with Africa were directed to me and thanks to ZTA, I had an idea of most of the African countries and their tourism sectors,” she said.
She added that being the only African helped add colour and flavour at the pageant which was a friendship and tourism culture interchange event.
The Miss Tourism International contest is the only New Year’s Eve pageant that plays host to more than 30 international beauty queens from around the world.
The beauty queen said she would continue working with charitable organisations even after her reign which ends next month.
“I will continue charity projects and impart what I learnt to those who will be crowned next month,” said Mushaya.
