Bulawayo will on Friday night get a golden opportunity to wrap up the year in style with the “Bohlingers Woza 2011 Gig” at Queens Sports Grounds that will feature top DJs, musicians and actors drawn from Zimbabwe and South Africa.
The event will be hosted by Delta Beverages in conjunction with Kalawa Jamzee.
Bulawayo businessman Gift Banda, who is one of the organisers, described the event as high-profile.
The show, he said, will feature top models from South Africa and Zimbabwe:
“This is a high- profile event and we want to maintain the standards by making the show similar to big events held in South Africa. We’re bringing in the models to push the show.”
He added this was their first time to host such a big end-of-year party in Bulawayo and they hoped to take after Swaziland, which hosted similar events,
attracting over 4 000 people over the past five years.
Babongile Sikhonjwa and Ezra “Tshisa” Sibanda, who arrived in Bulawayo on Monday, will be the MCs.
Top wheel spinner, Oscar Mdlongwa aka Oskido, and musician Winnie Khumalo are expected in the country on Thursday.
Award-winning musicians Professor, Alaska and Brown Dash are also expected to land at Bulawayo Airport Friday.
Leading Rhythm City actors Stone, Tsidi and Mono T will also grace the event where they will mix and mingle with their Zimbabwean fans.
South African-based Zimbabwean singer Apple Seed, real name Adrian Anesu Mupemhi, will also return home to perform at the gig. Revellers will pay $15 before 11pm and $20 thereafter.
Local DJs, Zobha, Mungane, Mavy, Gunz, T1 and Slammer, will also be on the decks. The party is expected to kick off in the afternoon and end the next morning on January 1, 2011.
The South Africans will leave on January 2 as a surprise event has been lined up for them on the first day of 2011.
Delta Beverages marketing manager Patricia Murambinda said the Bohlingers parties are held annually as a way to thank Bohlingers drinkers for their continuous support.
This year’s events are bigger and better as compared to previous years the Harare party which was held at Stars Night Club commanded a full house and Generations actors, Senzo, Ajax and Sharon graced the event with DJ Waxxy.
