In an incident that has left Entumbane residents in Bulawayo shocked, a 45-year-old man allegedly fatally stabbed his younger brother after the two engaged in a brawl over a girl he had brought home, NewsDay has learnt.
Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Mandlenkosi Moyo confirmed the incident, which happened on Wednesday night last week in Entumbane high-density suburb.
“I can confirm that we got a report that a man killed his youngerer brother aged 28 after the two had an argument over the girlfriend who had been brought home by the elder brother. The man allegedly took a kitchen knife and stabbed the younger brother on the neck. The younger brother collapsed and later died,”said Moyo.
He could not reveal the name of the deceased as the next of kin had not been informed. Moyo could also not reveal the name of the assailant as he feared that would prejudice investigations.
Residents said the elder brother came home with his girlfriend during the night. On arrival, the younger brother challenged his brother on why he had brought a girlfriend home.
The argument led to a fight between the two and the elder brother grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed the younger brother on the neck.
Moyo said a report was made to the police and when the police went to the house the assailant had already fled but was later arrested.
“The assailant had fled the scene but we have since arrested him; he is in police custody. We challenge people not to take the law into their hands if they have disputes but they should resort to other measures such as engaging the police, family systems and other legal protocols that can settle disputes without causing the loss of life,” said Moyo.
He said investigations were still in progress and the accused would be taken to court any time soon.
