A local estate agent director is alleged to have sold a stand to two buyers in a well-orchestrated fraud running into thousands of dollars.
Brian Gorekore Mazhanga is alleged to have flighted an advertisement in local newspapers three years ago selling stand number 610 Westgate.
Tsitsi Lynette Malunga responded to the advert and was invited to view the stand by Mazhanga under his company Orchid Real Estate Agency.
However, since Malunga was proceeding to South Africa, she is said to have instructed Edward Mutsvairo to carry out the transaction on her behalf after giving him the money.
Mutsvairo is said to have paid ZW$1,5 billion and was made to sign an agreement of sale by Mazhanga who was representing his estate agency.
After having secured the initial buyer, Mazhanga is said to have sold the same stand to Assemblies of God Church for ZW$1,7 billion and the church was represented by Andrew Chisango who was made to sign an agreement of sale by Mazhanga.
Upon her return from South Africa, Malunga is said to have made follow-ups for the title deeds from the developer Douglas Nyaude and was informed the church had purchased the stand from the estate agent.
Malunga made a report to the police leading to Mazhanga’s arrest. He is said to have made arrangements to refund Malunga the sum of US$15 000 of which he has since paid US$8 000.
Mazhanga appeared before regional magistrate Never Katiyo jointly charged with his company Orchid Real Estate Agency and was not asked to plead. Editor Mavuto appeared for the state.
