Eagles FC…………….(1) 1
Caps United…………(1) 4
Caps United matched towards fourth place after demolishing Eagles in a one-sided Premiership match at Gwanzura Stadium.
Goals from Clive Kawinga in the third minute, a penalty by goalkeeper Edmore Sibanda in the 47th minute-his sixth of the season, and other strikes from Edmore Chafungamoyo in the 66th minute and Adu Frank Kwame 15 minutes from full time cancelled out an Ephraim Mwinga’s equaliser from the penalty spot.
After the emphatic win, Caps leapfrogged Monomotapa to sixth position with 45 points while Eagles, who have 34 points was dislodged into 10th position by Kiglon.
Despite the win, Caps United coach Moses Chunga said: “I don’t normally comment on the referee’s decisions because that is the form of the game to have the referee making his decisions. Ending in the top four is another issue that will sort itself; we are looking at winning the last games of the season.”
Caps United finished the match with 10 men after referee Mlindeli Ndebele sent off former Warriors defender David Sengu a minute before end of the match for kicking Tafadzwa Takawira, effectively ending his 2010 season.
Eagles had the upper hand in the first half with their midfielders creating a lot of chances only to be let down by their wasteful strikers, with Malvern Dumbura the chief culprit.
The burly striker had a chance to equalise in 12th minute after intercepting Sibanda’s shot pass to his defender. He missed the target.
Eagles equalised in the 38th minute when Dumbura was brought down in the penalty box by Nyasha Mukumbi and Mwinga sent Sibanda the wrong way from the spot.
Sibanda increased his tally of the season to six goals from the spot when Vincent Nzombe was brought down in the penalty box.
Chapfungamoyo added more misery to Eagles when he scored a brilliant header from a Godknows Mangani corner to complete the rout.
