Two of Bulawayo’s promising kwaito artistes, Mcheznana and Mavutete, will on Thursday launch their latest albums at the National Gallery in Bulawayo.
The two are winners of the talent search run by Ingwe Studios. Mcheznana won the competition in 2008 and Mavutete the following year.
Mcheznana will be releasing his second album while for his counterpart it will be a debut album.
Mcheznana’s first album Off Topic was well received by the public and already some of the tracks on his new album are in high demand. He even went on to create some rivalry with Stunner.
His new album titled Premier League is a signal that he is now ready to match the best in the industry. The six-track album addresses social issues in a comical and humorous way.
The song One Zimbabwe dwells on tribal issues that have dogged the nation for many years. In Rovai, he puts himself in the shoes of someone who has been abused by the notorious riot police.
Uright Stereki is a song where he urges people to desist from discriminating against albinos.
Mavutete’s album Khela Boss has eight tracks featuring party songs and love ballads.
Most of the songs are high tempo and will surely appeal to both the young and old, especially as we enter the festive season.
An official of Ingwe Studios, Khulekani Bethule, said they were ready for the launch as everything had been arranged.
He said their decision to do talent searches in the city was paying off. He said: “We discovered that there is a wealth of untapped talent in Bulawayo. We then decided as Ingwe Studios to tap into that talent through a talent search.”
The winner of the talent show is given a one-year recording deal.
This year’s talent search event will be held on December 11 and this time two winners will be given recording deals, one for gospel and the other urban grooves.
