An Apostolic Faith Mission (AFM) pastor from Chirodzero business centre in Chinamhora found himself on the wrong side of the law after allegedly assaulting and pointing a firearm at a church security guard.
Fungai Faranera (37) is alleged to have accused Peter Chidamusiya of Nyakudya village, who was employed by the church as a guard, of sleeping on duty and punched him as punishment.
It is alleged that on August 29 this year Chidamusiya, who was engaged by the church as the night watch, was on duty as usual.
Faranera, who is resident at the church, is said to have decided to carry out premise checks before retiring to bed at around 9:30pm.
The man of God went around and found Chidamusiya who was at his usual guarding point and accused him of sleeping on duty.
The angered pastor is alleged to have pointed a firearm at Chidamusiya and ordered him to sit down.
It is alleged that at that particular moment the pastor started punching the guard with clenched fists and open hands after putting aside his firearm.
Chidamusiya is said to have managed to flee from the fuming pastor and disappeared into the night.
He reported the matter to the police the following day and during investigations, the police recovered the firearm.
Faranera appeared before Harare magistrate Gamuchirai Siwardi and was remanded out of custody on $30 bail after spending a week in remand prison. Faranera is facing a count of assault and another of pointing a firearm.
However, Faranera pleaded not guilty to the charges saying he does not own a firearm.
