Chiwoniso Maraire and Victor Kunonga will share the stage in a top drawer show scheduled for November 26 at the 7 Arts Theatre in Harare dubbed The True African Vibe Concert.
The first of its kind, the show will see the two artistes blending on stage to create an extraordinary experience for the fans.
“Both Chiwoniso and Victor will bring their own unique styles to each other’s most popular songs to create something brand new,” said Tsungi Zvobgo, CEO of New Sofala Entertainment, promoters of the show.
Chiwoniso said she was “flattered” to share the stage with Kunonga, whom he described as “a very charismatic, yet humble performer”.
“I cannot wait to see what we will produce for our audience,” she said.
Kunonga said he was equally honoured to perform together with Chiwoniso, who was also a friend.
He said: ““Chiwoniso is a very energetic and inspiring artist and I am so honored to be sharing the stage with one of my inspirations.”
Chiwoniso, without a doubt one of the most amazing and refreshing talents in African music, has a mesmerizing voice, resounding with a heartfelt tenderness. Her music is backed by the distinct sound of the African mbira.
Kunonga, a jazz star in his own right, has often been touted heir apparent to the “Tuku” legend.
His electrifying brands of afro-jazz performances rarely leave an empty seat, with audiences singing and dancing non-stop to his powerful rhythms.
According to Zvobgo, the concept of the show is to bring audiences something different from the usual set-up where one sees artists back to back and not often bringing value to each other on stage.
“Having seen Victor and Chiwoniso prepare for the concert, all I can say is the combination of the two is incredibly mesmerizing, bringinginterlocking melodies resounding with electrifying energy and mutual chemistry. It’s a show that cannot be missed,” Zvobgo said. “And at only $15 ticket, audiences are guaranteed a true African vibe experience.”
