Sungura maestro Tongai “Dhewa” Moyo’s new album, Toita Basa, hits the market on Friday, but the official launch has been pencilled for November 25 at the popular outdoor entertainment arena, Megga1.
Dhewa said he wanted the album to draw him closer to his fans, with whom he will mingle during the launch, while the album is played in the background.
He added he wanted his fans to know him through personal interaction, and not on the basis of negative media reports.
“This album is definitely one of a kind. I believe my voice was clearer than ever and it is mainly pure sungura compared to my usual sungura and rhumba fusions,” he said.
He said the six-track album, the thirteenth offering of his music career, is a dedication to cancer patients around the world. Dhewa himself has been battling cancer with a positive mind for the past five years.
He said Toita Basa was a compilation of new tracks like Ndiro Yababa, Tsamba Ndakanyora and Ndinobvuma, which he sampled during his recent shows.
The Murozvi Mukuru hit-maker said he had been working tirelessly to make the best out of the latest album which he hopes will bring him closer to his fans.
