Golfers brace for GORAS tourney

Golfers with Rare Abilities Golf Association will be in Nyanga this weekend for their annual 54 holes golf championship tournament.

The tournament kicks off on Friday with 18 holes on medal format.

On Saturday golfers will be teeing off very early in order to complete the remaining 36 holes.

Claremont golf club is hosting this year’s golf tournament

Reigning captain, Osborne Karuva confirmed that the tournament preparations are complete, with the course having been spruced up in anticipation of a very good field.

Last year the tournament was won by Joseph Nyakonda who took over the trophy from Hardlife Magombedze.

Hot favourites this year are Nyakonda, whose game continues to improve while Tich Chivonivoni, who is now paying off a 4 handicap also has a good chance.

Seasoned golfers Ben Kadzirange and Herbert Muyambo both stand a very good chance to clinch the trophy.

GORAS draw its membership from across the country.

They play twice a month, touring golf courses around the country.

However, as a tradition, the finals are always held in Nyanga.

The annual tournament will also coincide with the annual general meeting where members are expected to elect new office bearers and discuss strategies meant to improve the association’s activities next year.
