The second edition of Stanbic Twenty20 competition was officially launched at a colourful ceremony held at a local hotel on Thursday.
The tournament promises some nail-biting action for the fans over the next eight days and with the capacity at Harare Sports Club having been increased to 13000, it’s now game on in the fastest growing sports tournament.
The tournament sponsors, Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC)officials and the players and coaching staff of the respective franchises, were represented at the function.
Some of the sponsors who were represented at the tournament include the title sponsors Stanbic Bank, Delta Beverages, Innscor, Tetrad and Nissan Zimbabwe.
ZC managing director Ozias Bvute said his association was delighted to be hosting the competition and expressed his gratitude to the sponsors.
“As Zimbabwe Cricket we are delighted to be hosting the second edition of the Stanbic Twenty20 competition and we also acknowledge the efforts of our sponsors.
“Twenty20 cricket has become a global phenomenon and in the same light we hope that the competition will continue to grow from strength to strength. We have an array of stars bracing for the tournament, which should make the tournament exciting for the fans during the nine days of the games,” added Bvute.
On the issue of lobbying for the winners of the Stanbic Twenty20 competition to secure a berth at the Champions League Twenty20 Bvute said:
“We have not made a formal approach to the owners of the Champions League Twenty20. Our ultimate goal at the moment is to increase the number of people involved in the game and the issue of the Champions League berth is secondary.”
