More than 40 groups and individual artists are set to perform at this year’s annual Ibumba International Festival to be held at five venues in the city, including Makokoba Main Hall, Stanley Square, Indaba Café and the Bulawayo Theatre Club.
The arts festival, to be held between December 15 and 22 under the theme “Live Out Loud”, is produced by Siyaya Arts.
Nkululeko Nkala, the press liaison officer for Ibumba Festival, told NewsDay that the activities this year have been expanded to incorporate other genres including visual arts, literature, poetry and dance.
Nkala said the theme expresses an expectation of the festival’s partners, audiences and the community to blossom.
The poetry session will be fused with a photographic exhibition.
“Poets will be asked to come up with poetic interpretations of photographic images of their choice from 20 photographs provided by the organisers. The photo-poetry exhibition will run under the theme “Writing with Light”.
This theme calls for innovative work, which demonstrates new ideas, writing styles, approaches, as well as techniques and extends to the existence of the diverse poetry forms in Zimbabwe, in line with the Ibumba festival’s theme,” said Nkala.
