The annual schools Division One swimming gala, to be hosted by Springvale House roars into life at Les Brown pool on Saturday.
Ten schools, namely Bishopslea, Chisipite, Convent, Hartmann, Hellenic, St Johns’ from Harare, Bryden from Chegutu, Springvale and Ruzawi from Marondera and Lilfordia from Mashonaland West will battle it out for honors.
The schools will compete in the Under–9, 10, 11, 12 and 13 age groups.
Hartmann House, a preparatory school for St Georges College, who came fourth in the last edition of the competition, have vowed to wrestle the title from defending champions St John’s.
Speaking to NewsDay Sport on Tuesday, Lesley Tomlinson the school swimming coach said the preparations for the gala are at an advanced stage.
“The preparations are going on well, and we are hoping to do better than last year,” said Tomlinson.
Swimmers Bruce Chiang (U/10), Tadiwa Mhuruyengwe, Joshua Nduku (U/11), Marcus Steele (U/12) and Brandon Chiang (U/13) carry the hopes of Hartmann House.
The schools will compete in the breaststroke relay, medley relay and also freestyle relay.
