Two well–taken goals by Asim Rupanga and substitute Lameck Nhamo at the death of both halves gave relegation threatened FC Victoria a priceless victory over wasteful Kiglon at Gwanzura on Sunday .

Rupanga opened the scoring with a firm header in the 44th minute before Nhamo sealed the three points with a clinical finish from close range on the stroke of full time.

The win by FC Victoria, which was only their fourth this season, helped them leapfrog Bantu Rovers from the foot of the log to 15th position with 28 points, just a point below 14th placed Douglas Warriors.

Kiglon missed a chance to move further away from the relegation zone and remained 11th on the log and have not won since September 25.

FC Victoria coach Saul Chaminuka was full of praises for his players.

“I was impressed with the performance of the players. The spirited performance just shows the unity that is now in our camp.

“When you are at the bottom of the log you need such performances to bring back the confidence in the dressing room.

“With such performances we can still survive relegation come end of the season,” a visibly relieved Chaminuka said.

His opposite number Lloyd Mutasa said: “At this stage of the season if you get the chances that we got and fail to utilise them, you will be made to pay. However, I’m confident that we can still manage to bounce back from the bad spell.”

After a disappointing opening quarter in which both sides struggled to keep possession, Kiglon seized control of the match after the half hour mark.

They created the better chances but Denver Mukamba and Edmore Chitato were denied by the upright and the cross bar respectively.

Against the run of play Rupanga opened the scoring for the visitors with a firm header on the near post from an Edmore Mawine corner a minute before the breather.

Try as they did Kiglon could not find the equaliser as they were either too elaborate in front of goal or they found stand in goalkeeper David Madziwana in an unyielding mood.
