Nonsikelelo Sibanda, the Zimbabwe women rugby team coach has vowed his team, the Pangolins will clinch the Zimbabwe Women’s Sevens tournament which kicks off at Harare Sports club on Saturday.
The BancABC and Delta Beverages sponsored tournament, which will be in its second year running, has attracted teams from Botswana, South Africa, and defending champions Zambia.
South African’s Tukkies and Limpopo Bulls, Pangolins, Zim B, Botswana and Zambia will battle it for honours.
Sibanda, who has not won a game against these top teams in the previous tournaments, will hope to turn the tide this time around.
“We have been training hard and our preparations for this tournament are going on well,” Sibanda told NewsDay on Thursday.
“We hope to use our home advantage, we cannot let these teams from outside to come and bully us here, our aim is to win it this time around,” added Sibanda.
“We are fielding two teams, and that will obviously increase our chances of winning.
“It’s not going to be easy though, we will be up against some of the biggest teams on the continent.
“We have played all these teams before and we know their capabilities but we are equally prepared,” said the coach.
All visiting teams are expected in the country on Friday.
