The Zimbabwe women’s Sevens side, the Pangolins will battle it out with four other teams in this year’s edition of the Zimbabwe women’s Sevens Regional tournament.
The tournament which is in its second year is scheduled for Harare Sports Club on October 30.
Former women’s national team player Judith Chiyangwa, who is the coordinator of the event, said they had received confirmation from the participating teams African provincial sides, Limpopo Bulls and Tukkies.
Zimbabwe will be in Pool B with Tukkies and the Blue Bulls while Pool A will have defending champions Zambia, Botswana and Zimbabwe B.
“As the hosts we will be fielding two teams and hopefully we will regain the trophy from Zambia who won it last year,” Chiyangwa said.
Last year the tourney was named after the title sponsors BancABC but Chiyangwa said the door was still open to other corporates to come forward and support the girl child.
“With the support of BancABC we were able to hold last year’s tournament but the door is still open for other corporate companies to come forward and support us.
“We would also like to thank Delta Beverages for the support they have given us this year and BancABC for continuing to support us and we hope other companies will continue to come forward,” said Chiyangwa.
With less than two week before the tournament the Nsikelelo “Syke” Sibanda-coached side is expected to go into camp from October 24-29 in preparation for the tournament.
“We have learned from our mistakes last year that we need the payers training together as a team before a big tournament.
At the moment the players have been training in Harare and Bulawayo on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays,” said Chiyangwa.
