Diasporan designer hosts debut show for noble cause

US-based Zimbabwean fashion designer Chipo Mudzengi will next month host a debut fashion show for her label, Panashe Designs, in Harare.

Mudzengi, who is currently based in Dallas Texas where she has been hosting various fashion shows, said her aim was to build confidence and bring out women’s inner beauty through these designs.

“I’m a young woman whose hope is to inspire other women.

As they wear Panashe Designs they are declaring that ‘God is in this house!’, so I aim to build a relationship with people that want to make a difference in other people’s lives,” she said.

Her other aim was to establish a fashion line that people could wear proudly.

“I’m also hoping that the show will bring in investors to help me bring my vision to completion.

I want to be able to open a boutique in Harare that will cater for the beautiful, elegant women who hope and desire to look different but respectable.”

She said the event would be open to the public, buyers from major stores and boutiques around Zimbabwe and South Africa, local and international media, women’s networks and fashion-conscious women.

The pageant will take place at an upscale venue in Harare and Mudzengi is looking to take sponsors on board who stand to get publicity and mileage.

Mudzengi is also the founder of Panashe Ministries, an organisation that is geared towards reaching out to single mothers.

Panashe gives them space to realise their potential by claiming what is theirs through close acquaintance with the scriptures.

Mudzengi said in 2007 God gave her a vision to build a
centre that would be run by single mothers and which would also provide them with jobs.

Proceeds from the show will be directed towards this ministry.
