David Mashumba, the manager and best friend of the late jazz artiste Dumisani Ngulube, has confirmed that a memorial show to raise money for Ngulube’s family will be held on October 10 at the Zimbabwe College of Music.
“Initially, the show was supposed to be hosted on Saturday the 9th (of October) but we changed after realising that Oliver Mtukudzi and Andy Brown would be performing in Masvingo yet they had agreed to be part of the programme,” said Mashumba.
He said the main reason for the show at such an early stage was to help Ngulube’s widow, Lindiwe and two children Nothando and Mandla, who are still in school.
He said artistes that had agreed to participate in the benefit show included Victor Kunonga, Mbare Trio, Pablo and Friends and Rute Mbangwa.
“I have already discussed this issue of hosting a benefit show with Dumi’s wife and she has approved of it,” said Mashumba.
“The show will start on Sunday afternoon so as to allow people to attend church services,” he said.
He said the timing of the show was important because it was at this point when Ngulube’s family needed emotional and financial support the most.
Ngulube died last week after suffering from a severe headache.
