The Hockey Association of Zimbabwe (HAZ) says they will revamp its structures to breathe new life into the once vibrant National League which has been lying dormant since 2004.
Re-elected HAZ president Farai Kanyangarara said there was unanimous support for the recommendation during the association’s bi-annual meeting held over the weekend.
Kanyangarara told NewsDay all the provinces represented supported the proposal of starting the National League from next season.
“At the general meeting there was a recommendation that we revive the National League and it was unanimously accepted.
“It was agreed that although local clubs are facing financial problems, we would be able to minimise travelling costs by playing it in a tournament format at the three main provinces in Harare, Masvingo and Bulawayo.
“There we would have both the men and women’s teams from around the country playing competitive hockey again and we hope this will inject some life into the sport again,” said Kanyangarara.
