Bosso, Dynamos clash abandoned again

(Match abandoned with four minutes addedtime remaining)

Poor communication between referee Thabani Mnkanjo and his assistant Brighton Nyika spoiled an otherwise exciting Premier Soccer League encounter between Highlanders and Dynamos at Barbourfields Stadium Sunday.

The match was abandoned as it was heading for injury time after Highlanders fans from the Soweto Stand started throwing missiles into the pitch.

The fans were apparently angered by Mnkanjo’s decision to give Dynamos a throw-in which Nyika had adjudged to belong to Highlanders.

All hell broke loose and riot police had to be called in to quell the situation. The rowdy Bosso fans engaged in running battles with the law-enforcement agents.

After discussions among the match officials that included match commissioner Kenny Sigoba, it was finally decided that the two teams get back to the pitch for resumption of the match but just after Mkantjo had blown for the game to resume, police fired teargas canisters in the Empankweni stand.

The fans then jumped into the pitch, forcing the players and match officials to retreat into the dressing rooms. The teams eventually left the stadium for safety reasons.

Sigoba said the match could not be restarted because of the violence.

“We can’t resume the match. Some people have been injured, you can safely say the match has been abandoned and the teams have actually left as we speak,” Sigoba said.

The match started at a fast pace with Highlanders all over Dynamos with impressive Joel Ngodzo, workhorse Eric Mudzingwa, Rahman Kutsanzira and Menard Mupera outstanding for the home side.

The four exchanged beautiful passes and were eventually rewarded in the 28th minute after defender Innocent Mapuranga overlapped into the Dynamos half on the left flank and sent a cross which found Kanda well-positioned to head the ball into the net.

The game entirely belonged to Highlanders, with the four midfielders dictating pace in the middle of the park.

The introduction of Desmond Maringwa in the second half injected life into the Glamour Boys, especially towards the end of the match.
Out-of-form Gwekwerere had the Dynamos supporters up in the air in the 84th minute.

Guthrie Zhokinyi made sure Dynamos completed their double over Highlanders this season two minutes before full time with a beautiful header.
