Scripture reference: Genesis 1:1-2:3
In this presentation, we are going to extract lessons from day one of Creation.
When God was faced with a chaotic situation of a formless and void earth in total darkness, this is what then transpired, “. . . And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.” — Genesis 1:2b-5 (KJV).
The first thing that happened was the moving of the Holy Spirit.
In any dead situation in your life; marriage, education, work, business etc, invite the Holy Spirit to move. Whatever God is going to do on the face of the earth in this dispensation, will be through His Spirit. Do you still remember the national anthem we used to sing which invited the Holy Spirit?
The light that God released on day one is not the sun. The sun only came into being in day four.
I shall deal with the theology of this light later in this series.
What we need to understand for now is that light gives illumination.
This allows us to perceive and see things then we can make informed decisions.
Whatever situation you may face, do not rush to conclude and take action. Seek understanding and look at it beyond the present. Travel like light then make a decision from the future.
When you lose your loved ones, when you want to get married and you are thirty-four and no one has asked you out or you fall sick and you are fired from work, do not lose heart, travel by prayer to the future and see the good plan God has in store for you, Jeremiah 29:11.
Let us relook at Genesis 1:5b, “. . . And the evening and the morning were the first day.” God did not start in the morning but in the evening.
Many of us want to start with work before school; money before work; sex before marriage etc.
Disregard for the process of time, has resulted in us having precast walls and razor wire at our homes, burglar bars that disfigure our houses and we pay so much for security services.
If you are facing any darkness in your life, know that for sure the day is coming. If you are sick, hold on for healing. If you are broke, trust God for riches. As a nation we are trusting God for brighter days.
The Bible declares, “. . . weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning,” Psalm 30:5 (KJV).
It does not matter if you are in the dungeons of life, obscure and struggling, as long as you have Christ in you, the hope of glory, you will make it. I must hasten to say that if you are suffering because you are on the devil’s side, you will perish unless you repent.
God divided the light from the darkness. Notice that when He released light, darkness was still there. So when you embark on any good cause in life, there will always be negative things.
They are not necessarily evil, they are just bad.
God did not do away with the darkness, He retained it. You have to identify all the good and the bad things then separate them.
Separate yourself from people that are not enhancing your development in life. Sit down and do a stocktake of your life and draw a line.
There are habits you have to leave and things you have to let go. Life is based on decisions.
You can choose today to follow Jesus. You can choose to use the time you spent in brothels and nightclubs to further your studies.
It is up to you to cut on certain unnecessary expenditures and save for more meaningful projects. Darkness is used for processing.
In general, the night is for sleeping and dreaming.
So your nights should give you rest and energise you for the day. When you cannot get employment or contract, do not waste time crying.
Think and strategise for the future.
If you are sick, pray and believe in God for healing.
Earlier in this series, I gave the example of film development. It is made in the darkroom.
You need to exploit the dark moments of life to produce a brighter future.
Do not cry, regret and blame anyone but see the opportunity God has granted you.
When a business or political party goes to sleep and fails to dream, they wake up tomorrow to hear about the launch of a strong competitor.
