One of the country’s biggest music promoters “Chipaz Promotions”, whose real name is Patson Chimbodza, says for his love of music he will continue to offer a performing platform to great and upcoming Zimbabwean artistes.
Chipaz Promotions was formed four years ago with the aim of helping established artistes to stage big shows that would take Zimbabwean music to another level.
According to Chimbodza, who is the man behind most of the shows by Zimbabwe’s popular artistes like Oliver Mtukudzi, Tongai Moyo, Sulumani Chimbetu and Alick Macheso, he would not leave out upcoming artistes like Kapfupi and the late Sam Mtukudzi’s AY Band.
“When I choose to promote an artiste I look at his clientele and the way he presents himself and for the upcoming ones I examine their behaviour and performance as all these are important aspects for aspiring superstars,” said Chimbodza.
He said his business did not always make a profit but sometimes it helped in enhancing his reputation in entertainment circles.
Chimbodza said at one time during the Zimbabwean dollar era business got so low but following dollarisation the situation had vastly improved.
He said he was behind the popular 2009 Shut Down Show that took place at a local hotel featuring Mtukudzi, Macheso and Chimbetu and had a massive turnout.
“I am also the one behind Football for Artistes and Soccer Legends that take place annually in January,” he said.
Besides his music passion, Chimbodza owns a vehicle repair shop a concern which specialises in BMW vehicles.
