Sulumani – son of the late Dendera maestro Simon Chimbetu – took Dendera fans down memory lane at the Sports Diner on Saturday night as he sang his father’s songs, although his new songs also seemed an instant hit with the fans.
The young man has obviously gained more than fame. He kept his music fans on their toes with his scintillating Dendera music.
But he is still as agile as he was four years ago when he quit the army to join Dendera Kings after his father’s death.
He can still play for up to four hours without taking a break.
For many, what’s fascinating about Sulu as he is affectionately known by his fans is not just the sight of someone heavy swaying on stage with such ease, but the frequency at which they can catch fleeting glimpses of the man behind his fame – Simon.
