Scripture reference: Genesis 1:1- 2:3
In the previous instalment, we found out that God created the heaven and the earth and all that is in them stage by stage from day one to day six and He rested on day seven.

In this instalment, we shall look at how God began this whole process. If we apply the same system in our lives, we are bound to come up with the same perfect picture that He came out with after six days.

God is not a respecter of persons but a respecter of His principles. Any person, family, organisation or nation that uses God’s principles will reap the rewards and the blessing.

Genesis 1:1-3 reads, “1. In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. 2. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. 3. And God said, Let there be light; and there was light.” (KJV)

In this presentation, I shall look at the first word in the Bible, IN. Of all the words under the sun, why does the Bible begin with this word? It could have started with such words as: at, around, by, near, on, under, next etc. Before I continue, let me suspend you and give you a story.

Someone, it could be you, prayed this prayer for years: “O Lord, change the world.” The world did not change. He fasted about it but nothing changed. He reduced the prayer: “O Lord, change my continent.” Nothing happened. He reduced if further: “O Lord, change my country,” but the country did not change. He reduced it even further: “O Lord, change my neighbourhood,” but nothing changed. He reduced it even further still: “O Lord, change my family,” but still the family did not change. Lastly he prayed: “O Lord, change me,” and alas the whole world changed.

The bottom line is, if you and I do not change, everyone else will not change. Do not wait for your enemy to greet you first, go ahead and greet them. Do not wait for someone to clear the mess, clear it yourself.

Imagine how fast humanity would develop if everyone was responsible and took the initiative of doing good. Paradoxically, everyone wants to change everyone else except themselves.

Husband wants to change wife and vice versa; parents want to change children and vice versa; management want to change staff and vice versa; leaders want to change followers and vice versa, learning institution heads want to change students and vice versa; kings/queens and chiefs want to change their subjects and vice versa; presidents, prime ministers, parliamentarians, senators and councillors want to change electorate and vice versa; and the pastor wants to change the congregation and vice versa.
At least someone wants someone to change.

This is like chasing the wind and Solomon describes it thus: “Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity.” Ecclesiastes 1:2 (KJV). If this stalemate is maintained, nothing will change.

Let everyone change so that everyone else changes.
Back to our story, God was faced by an imposing outside world.

The earth was formless, void and there was total darkness.

He did not call friends to complain neither did He scheme some boardroom coup d’état.

He took out that which was inside Him and spoke it out and it changed the outside. Your inside will shape your outside. God spoke His heart (which is inside) out and light became.

The Bible says: “…for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh…” Matthew 12:34 (KJV). You may be faced with the same formlessness, void and darkness in your life, marriage, relationship, business or nation, make sure that your inside is right and correct, then speak light.

You should never speak negative things. When you are sick, speak health, when broke, speak wealth etc. In Joshua 1:8 God tells us to speak His word and meditate it day and night. If you follow this principle you will be able to speak positive.

The Psalmist says he hid God’s Word in the heart to avoid behaving negatively- Psalms 119:11.

If the Word of God is inside you, when you speak, you will speak the will of God. The summary of the story is, it begins with you.

Next week we will look at the properties of IN and see what really makes the inside.
