Blackburn consider Benjani gamble

Blackburn boss Sam Allardyce is reportedly ready to hand Benjani Mwaruwari a Premier League lifeline after the former Warriors striker Zimbabwe striker persuaded the Blackburn boss he was still worth taking a gamble on.
Mwaruwari is said to have proved his fitness during a fortnight of training with the squad, as Allardyce looks to boost his firepower options.
According to a British publication, The Lancashire Telegraph negotiations will take place between Mwaruwari’s representatives and the club in the next few days – but the search for one more striker will continue.
Another British newspaper, The Sun reported that Allardyce was ready to offer a short-term deal to the former Manchester City striker.
“The Zimbabwean free agent has been training with Big Sam’s Blackburn for a fortnight as he tries to find a club.
“Boss Allardyce had his doubts at first as Benjani, 32, suffers from a long-standing knee problem. But lack of funds at Ewood Park and a shortage of strikers mean the Rovers gaffer will take a gamble before the transfer window closes on Tuesday.”
Should Rovers seal the signing of 32-year-old Mwaruwari, theefforts to add another striker to the ranks before Tuesday’s close of the transfer window is likely to depend on Jason Roberts’ future at the club. Mwaruwari was recently axed from the national team by caretaker coach Norman Mapeza because of his failure to get a club. —Sports Reporter/Lancashire Telegraph
