Econet to bill per second next month

Econet Wireless, Zimbabwe’s largest telecoms service provider, will launch per second billing across all its networks and on international calls next month.
CEO Douglas Mboweni said the move would reduce the cost of making calls for both corporates and individuals as it applies to both peak and off-peak hours.
“The cost of making calls will be cheaper, so traffic volumes will increase.
We had to first clear issues of capacity before opening up to per second billing,” Mboweni said.
Econet’s per second billing will be offered to both prepaid and contract customers, he said, adding the company had taken time to develop a per second billing package that responds to customers, needs.
The system cuts across all networks, routes and packages, including international calls.
Econet said it would continue to develop products and services aimed at helping customers make savings.
Econet recently upgraded its network to enable it to cope with the rise in traffic volumes anticipated from the introduction of per second billing.
