Studio 263 fans, who had been awaiting the local soap to make a comeback on their screens on Tuesday night, were hugely disappointed as this did not happen.
They have to wait a bit longer as the soap’s producers have decided to postpone its return to September.
“We wish to state that Studio 263 will commence screening on the first Tuesday of the new ZTV1 season which is now set to begin in September,” said production manager Tinotenda Hondo.
The producers agreed with the national broadcaster that it would be better for the soap’s return to coincide with the beginning of a new month.
The soap is returning without some of the former actors, including Elijah Madzikatire, who is on record saying he was owed some money by the producers for his role in the last season.
Hondo said this time around, the soap will have a new diversified plot as well as some new characters including Kenny Kondo, who now plays James, and David Mungoshi, who will step fit into the big shoes of Stephen Chigorimbo, who played the role of John Huni.
“Zimbabweans of all ages and from all walks of life will find something to love and identify with in this new edition of Zimbabwe’s favourite soap opera as we bring to your screens the highlights, challenges, culture and way of life in Zimbabwe today,” Hondo said.
She, however, added that they had not entirely done away with the HIV and Aids theme.
The soap will be screened every Tuesday and Thursday at 1900 hours.
Studio 263 was first launched in 2002 as the first homegrown soap opera in Zimbabwe. It struck a chord with many viewers with its daily screenings,
before these were later cut down to thrice a week.
The soap was, however, taken off television two years ago following contractual disagreements with the broadcaster.
Studio 263 makes its comeback with no official sponsors although negotiations are said to be underway with prospective financiers.
“Our fans can be assured that this will not compromise the production’s quality. The Studio 263 team is working flat out to ensure that our viewers get nothing but the best. We look forward to returning to the small screen and stealing the hearts of the people of Zimbabwe yet again,” Hondo said.
