President Robert Mugabe has left for China where he is expected to attend Zimbabwe’s national day celebrations to be held at the Shanghai Expo on Wednesday.
He left shortly after delivering a speech at the Defence Forces’ Day commemorations at the National Sports Stadium in Harare Tuesday.
He was accompanied by his wife Grace, Foreign Affairs minister Simbarashe Mumbengegwi and several government officials.
According to media reports from China, the Chinese deputy ambassador He Meng said
President Mugabe would grace the national day celebrations as exhibitors attention will be focused on Zimbabwe.
“President Mugabe will attend the celebrations and a Zimbabwean cultural group will perform at the special occasion,” he said.
The diplomat said the national day celebrations provided a good opportunity for Zimbabwe to showcase its positive attributes to the world.
He also expressed hope that Zimbabwe’s participation at the expo would help the country to attract foreign investment and tourists to aid economic recovery.
